Thank you for your explanations. Why do you say MAM should not be enabled on the server when encrypting messages with OMEMO?
Also, what do you mean by "broken system"?
From what I understand MAM is needed to synchronize messages between several devices. Also, with OMEMO forward secrecy, an attacker should not be able to read the previous messages stored on the server with current encryption keys.

It is very easy to setup @snikket_im !
It took me 30 minutes to setup my server for the first time and it works well with the mobile app.
For the moment I think I prefer to have to manage a XMPP server with Snikket than to install a Matrix server. For Matrix the instructions seem very complicated and Synapse seem to consume lot of resources.
@wiktor Thank you for explaining!
It is now clear to me how OMEMO works.
It would be nice to have more explaining resources for newbies about XMPP stuff.
Just to be sure.
Is it because of the forward secrecy property of OMEMO that if I first login to my XMPP account on one client and discuss with somebody with messages encrypted with OMEMO and then login on another app, all previous messages aren't readable?
If I want to see all messages on all my XMPP clients I need to be logged in at the same time?
Or do I need to be at least once logged in some client in order to have my OMEMO keys assigned to my account?

Lots of new homeserver development happening atm - between Dendrite having implemented V2 state res, Conduit rising from Ruma's ashes, and Maelstrom forming too! So no better time to publish a new guide for understanding V2 state res from @neilalexander@twitter.com: https://matrix.org/docs/guides/implementing-stateres
