Note when testing the USB tethering function of a phone: check that the USB cable you are using is not the one included with the external battery which has only the pins for power and not those for data.
Otherwise you may not understand why the phone is not detected by the computer and vice and versa.
Playing around with Wireshark to look at the KaiOS feature phone traffic.
Just moving the cursor on the menu gives several requests to api.kaiostech.com (hosted at AWS cloud).
@tursiops Yes I think I will do something like this. I found GerdaOS (https://gerda.tech/) which seems to be just the good fork for KaiOS for my phone.
But, in my previous toot, I was asking how it should happen in the legal way. I find it quite abusive to buy something and then to read that if you don't accept some parts of the terms, you just can't use it.
@Xinfe Good that the shop accepted to fully refund you!
I will try to use the phone by searching for a solution that blocks unwanted outside requests.
So, I bought a feature phone with KaiOS (https://www.kaiostech.com/). If I decline the Terms and conditions of the service, the phone is unusable.
What am I expected to do? Go back to the shop to have it refund?
Shouldn't the Terms and Conditions have to be accepted even before buying something? (Well I know, if it's a gift for somebody else, it is not so a good idea…)

Are people using KaiOS (https://www.kaiostech.com/) on their phone and can they share their opinion about its security and privacy protection?
Is KaiOS easily hackable?
@infosechandbook@chaos.social Hello, I read your articles about the Lineage-based /e/ ROM, they are very interesting, thank you! Can you explain how you checked the outgoing traffic to Google? I would like to do the same tests on my Fairphone running Fairphone Open.
Also, do you already have an advice about the Firefox OS-based KaiOS concerning privacy? This operating system is running on Nokia's current feature phones. (https://www.kaiostech.com/)
